OUR ENVIRONMENTA L F O OT P R I N T
How we reduce our
environmental footprint
At Viessmann Refrigeration Solutions
energy consumption was reduced while
our business grew. This was because
we focused on energy efficiency
ISO 50001 Energy
management system
This is why we set ourselves the goal
of reducing energy consumption every
year. At the same time, we aim at
higher energy productivity to leave the
smallest CO2 footprint possible on our
planet. As part of our integrated management system certified according
to ISO 50001 we have an energy management system in place and regularly
observe the consumption data and
provide transparent descriptions.
Energy-efficient and renewable ressources
Depending on the location we have
different shares of renewable energies
in use as we depend on availability and
substitution.
100% renewable electricity
For the electricity needed in our both
productions sites we rely on 100%
green electricity. That means all our
electricity is derived from renewable
energy sources, such as wind, solar,
photovoltaics or others.
Furthermore, we equip our factory
roofs with photovoltaic systems to generate green electricity, which we share
with the general electricity network.
Local heat as CO2 neutral
choice
Wherever possible we purchase local
heat for our factory in Hof in Germany
from the biogas plant located directly
next to our factory. With that, we feed
our production machinery and our central heating. The heat from our biogas
plant is CO2 neutral. We are nowadays
able to purchase almost 50% of our total energy consumption in our factories
in Hof (Germany) and Porvoo (Finland)
by renewable energies.
Investment in production is
rewarded with more
environmental protection
With the reorganisation and optimisation of production processes in 2017
and 2018, we are able to act in a more
energy-efficient way today. This trend is
visible in constantly decreasing electricity consumption since 2017 and results
in lower total energy consumption.
CO2 emissions per
manufactured good
By a specific product line examination,
we managed to reach siginificant reductions of CO2 per produced cabinet/cold
room element over recent years.
New, more energy-efficient refrigeration cabinets are the most important
for reducing total emissions during
operation. In remote cabinets, we have
reduced in-use emissions by 22 % per
metre manufactured, and in plug-in
cabinets by approximately 6% per unit
manufactured compared to 2018.
Regarding our cold room elements, we
have lowered the emissions per cold
room element by almost 16% compared to 2018.
In every place where we borrow something from nature, we give something
back. This means we preserve our
factories’ place by creating ecological
compensation areas and renaturation
spaces.
